Senior Firmware Engineer
Overview
Flylance is hiring a Senior Firmware Engineer for a US based hardware technology client. You will join a small, senior firmware team working across two active product lines, one bare metal on a constrained microcontroller target and one running a dual processor architecture with an embedded Linux application processor.
This is hands on, low level work with real ownership. The team is small and the codebase is young. You will be trusted to make architectural calls, not just close tickets.
What you will work on
- Bare metal firmware for a signal processing algorithm running on a resource constrained MCU target
- A dual processor system pairing a microcontroller with an embedded Linux application processor
- Device drivers for onboard peripherals and communication interfaces
- Secure boot, signed and encrypted firmware images, and the update path around them
- Unit, integration and system level testing against physical hardware, including hardware in the loop rigs
- Support and extension of an existing legacy codebase alongside new development
Required
- 7+ years of professional embedded software development
- Strong C and C++ on resource constrained targets
- Production experience on STM32 or comparable Cortex-M silicon
- RTOS experience. Zephyr strongly preferred; FreeRTOS, ThreadX or comparable considered
- Embedded Linux exposure, including board bring up or driver level work
- Bootloader development and firmware security work: secure boot, image signing, or firmware encryption
- Peripheral and bus level fluency across UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, Ethernet, ADC, GPIO, timers and memory interfaces
- Comfortable debugging on real hardware with JTAG or SWD, logic analyzers and scopes
- Fluency with AI assisted development tooling as part of a normal workflow
- Professional written and spoken English
- Able to work independently in a small team with limited supervision
Preferred
- Zephyr on the STM32 H7 series specifically
- Battery management systems or power electronics domain experience
- Python for tooling, scripting and test automation
- CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and automated firmware test frameworks
- Experience carrying a board from initial bring up through validation
- Git and Jira in a team development workflow
Engagement details
- Contract engagement, full time hours, through Flylance
- Fully remote from Latin America with overlap to US business hours
- Ramp begins on standard development boards; access to prototype hardware is provided as the program progresses
- Interview process: cultural screen, technical interview, background check
- Locations
- Latin America
- Remote status
- Fully Remote
